Web 3.0 – The next stage of the Internet

This blog will tell you the stage of web development, why people daily talk about Web 3.0 and Horizon Land position in this sector

Nowadays, Web 3.0 together with GameFi and Metaverse, is one of the hottest keywords in crypto hubs. It is considered as the next iteration of the internet that promotes decentralized protocols and aims to protect people’s private information from big technology corporations such as Facebook, Youtube, or Netflix. However, the definition of Web 3.0 is still vague and people despite mentioning them every time do not virtually understand it. This blog will contribute our perspective about Web 3.0 for you and the whole community in general.

  1. The developing stage of the Internet

1.1. Web 1.0 (The past)

As its name, Web 1.0 is the first stage of the World Wide Web revolution. It is a static or read-only website that allows users to see the information on the webpage. In this version, users have no way to interact with the information received or give feedbacks to server owners in a significant sense. Besides, Web 1.0 is proprietary when people who download it can not change the code as well as how it works.

1.2. Web 2.0 (The present)

Web 2.0 is enhanced much compared to Web 1.0 that people can directly connect and give feedback for the pages. Referring Web 2.0, some people call it the “read/write” version of the internet by a computer code that enables users to both open and edit files rather than just view them in Web 1.0. For example, Wikis is an example of Web 2.0 where people can frequently update information about some events or social media (like Facebook, Twitter), e-commerce web (like Amazon, Alibaba) also allows users to connect with each other to socialize, purchase and learn.

1.3. Web 3.0 (The Future)

Web 3.0 is created to improve users’ experience and some flaws from Web 2.0. There are 3 main features that distinguish the development of Web 3.0:

Decentralization: Unlike Web 2.0 where data is stored at a fixed location, Web 3.0 allows data distributes to all the nodes in the network, ensuring that users retain ownership control. This version will deconstruct the vast datasets currently held by internet giants like Facebook (now Meta) and Google, preventing them from being over-enriched by giving people more power.

Trustless and Permissionless: Web 3.0 applications will run on blockchains or decentralized peer-to-peer networks, or a combination thereof—such decentralized apps are referred to as dApps; thus, there is no need for trust and permission from third parties who often manage transactions or activities to ensure the fluid operation. A code that is openly announced will help to operate transactions; hence, the two parties can be confident about the fairness of the machine without the interaction of people.

Connectivity and Ubiquity: Information and content are increasingly accessible and omnipresent with Web 3.0, which can be accessed by many applications and a growing number of daily objects connected to the internet, such as the Internet of Things.

Web 3.0 receives enormous attention from the public because of many reasons. Firstly, technology is the hottest topic today, while Web 3.0 is the future of the internet – an indispensable part of development. So developers compete for their share in this giant piece of the pie. In terms of users, Web 3.0 improves their internet experience with stronger connectivity using semantic metadata. In addition, the experience is enhanced by 3D graphics that make the internet experience more realistic and enjoyable (people often call it Metaverse or Phygital). The next reason is the combination of many high technologies such as AI or Semantic Web to increase connectivity between people and computers following the trend of IoT. And finally, Web 3.0 is on a mission to bring equality and privacy to everyone. Today, we use Web 2.0 with support from third parties like Google or Facebook, giving them exclusive control over information. The arrival of Web 3.0 protects everyone’s privacy with a peer-to-peer network that eliminates the need for centralized authority.
